Hand Me Downs first came about when the owner wanted to find some second hand high chairs for her twins. After looking all over town, and in the newspapers, and finding that advertisements often were not what they promised she ended up buying new.
The comment to her husband was that there should be somewhere like the paper, only where you could see the goods first hand, and have a choice!
Thus Hand Me Downs was born. It took 3 years of planning, then one day she was driving past an empty shop that looked promising. Next thing she had a lease, and it came to reality. The shop opened with a bassinet, and a walker ! That was back in 1995!
Originally there was no intention of selling clothes, but demand was there, and today Hand Me Downs sells 100's of items of great clothing daily, both discounted new, and quality second hand.
Hand Me Downs now employs 6 people, and has a data base of around 7500 people who sell through the store. All sales are on commission, with the exception of the discounted new goods that are sold.
The store has a commitment to clients to provide the highest quality services in a friendly, professional and efficient manner.

The employees are mums themselves, who have children at varying stages of life. Between them, they have 10 children, ranging in age including twins, and preemies. So they are usually able to offer advice on anything at all using real experience to give you an honest opinion. If it is felt you don't need an item you will be told, as we don't believe that you should be buying goods that you really don't need.
Our prices are cheap, as we are after turnover, but we do stock items for both ends of the scale, meaning that we have true bargains, but we also stock higher priced items for those that are after name brands.
We are very popular with grandparents, because they have already done it once, and just want goodies for the grand kids without spending a fortune. Our grandparents can have overflowing toy boxes, and still save heaps!
Hand Me Downs stocks both new and second hand goods, but it's often hard to tell them apart, as the second hand stock is usually in top condition.
With petrol prices rising, and the cost of food ridiculous.. ! It makes good sense to check what we have in stock first before going to buy new.
Our quality is generally better than that of the 'discount' super stores....and if you buy it from us, it's been washed, so you can at least tell if it's going to hold up!
