When looking at selling an item, there are certain rules that will help you get great results: We are very to the point here, and if you are going to take offense, then please don't use us to sell. Best to be forthright at the beginning. At least you'll know what to expect.
.
Make sure it is clean! Nobody will buy dirty gear!
(Don't be offended when we find marks. Our lights show up everything, and you usually don't have that sort of lighting at home)
. Clothes need to be IRONED. Wrinkly clothes look terrible and have a low sales rate
(really, you are bringing your goods to be sold. Wouldn't it be better if they looked nice.)
.
Safety is a prime issue. If it's not safe THROW IT OUT
(this should be obvious. You wouldn't want an unsafe item for your kids, would you?)
.
Your gear should be modern. Old daggy clothes DO NOT SELL!
(if it was yours when you were a kid, do you really believe that someone would buy it now?)
.
Broken or incomplete toys. Would you buy them ?
(once again, an obvious issue. Even missing battery covers make a toy 'broken'. Check those toys....)
.
Shoes. Scuffed or dirty, clean them or get rid of them.
(Most people are funny about 2nd hand shoes anyway. If they don't look perfect, chuck them out.)
The better you present your items, the more chance you have of them selling at a good price.
(fold them, or lay them flat. Put your toy sets together in grocery bag if necessary. We always price well presented goods higher.)
.
Make sure that the gear you are bringing is the correct season. Nobody is going to buy a parka in December!.
(think about what you are buying and allow us a couple of weeks to get it out on the floor. We take summer/spring gear from 1st August to Christmas, and winter/autumn from Jan to end July)
.The general rule of thumb is 'if you wouldn't buy it, don't bring it'
(fairly simple rule. But be very honest with yourself.)
. You must remember that we do not have the sentimental attachment that you have, and therefore will be a lot more critical of each item.
(Please don't be offended when we reject items. This is why it is better for us to sell it than you. If you are really attached, PLEASE don't bring it in.)
. We expect YOU to sort your goods at home. Don't bring in bags of mixed goods, ie summer and winter.
(Take the time to find out what it is we are taking, and bring in the correct season. A phone call is all it takes.
.If looking at selling toys, pre Christmas toys need to be in by October, else you will miss the boat.
(We take toys all year round, but we have HEAPS at Christmas, and just after. Mid year is a great time for toys. Bring a maximum of 5 books at a time, rather than a whole box. We are more likely to take them if you don't inundate us)
. Toys will sell better if they have batteries
. Any items that you have lots of, you can be assured that others have lots as well. We tend to limit them to around 5-10 pererson, per visit
(things like books, soft toys, hats, socks, bodysuits, singlets, and so on)
